Dwarf Jade - Bonsai Collection
Dwarf Jade is one of the most forgiving and rewarding bonsai species, especially for warm climates and indoor growers with bright light. Native to southern Africa, it’s a succulent with small, glossy leaves and a naturally shrubby habit that responds well to pruning and shaping. It thickens over time into attractive, chunky trunks and can be styled into everything from informal upright to clump, cascade, and even “mini tree” silhouettes that look far older than they are.
Because it stores water in its leaves and stems, Portulacaria handles missed waterings far better than most bonsai—but it absolutely demands strong light for tight internodes and small leaves. When it’s happy, it grows fast, back-buds readily, and roots easily from cuttings, making it ideal for creating multiple trees, trunk chops, and quick redevelopment after styling.
